5 Toxic Foods You Shouldn’t Be Feeding Your Dog

Dogs are indeed almost everyone’s part of the family, and that is why most of us tend to feed our dogs with the same food we eat. But did you know that not all the food that we feed them is good for them? And some of these are actually toxic?

If we do love our dogs, you should be reading this article because you might be feeding your dog wrongly and, worse, cause them to have health issues.

First of all, you have to know that the bodily systems of humans and our dogs operate differently. This means that what you can ingest may not be ingestible for your dogs. Here are the foods that you shouldn’t be feeding your dogs.

1. Chocolate and food rich in caffeine

Chocolates contain Theobromine, which could be toxic to your dogs. When these are taken at excessive levels, your dog may experience diarrhea, which clearly upsets its tummy. An example of this is dark chocolate. This will contain both Theobromine and caffeine, which will obviously double the detrimental effects to your dog.

2. Grapes, Raisins, Onions, and Garlic

Grapes and raisins may not be harmful to some dogs, but this type of food has been cited as one of the causes of kidney failure among dogs. Within 12 hours of ingestion, some dogs experience vomiting, lethargy, and diarrhea, which will trigger dehydration.

As well as the onions and garlic, these have compounds that trigger gastroenteritis and anemia. They pose serious damage to your dog’s red blood cells. And for obvious reasons, these things don’t sound good for your dog’s health.

 3. Alcohol

Alcohol contains ethanol, while beer contains hops, both of which could be poisonous to your pets. These trigger alcohol intoxication which eventually causes vomiting, the rising temperature of the body, and disorientations – things you would never want your beloved dogs to experience.

4. Food that contains Xylitol

Amongst all food, those that contain this substance are fatal to your dog. Candies and gums are among the common examples of this. This substance causes blood sugar drop, and when this becomes severe, it can cause death in the worst-case scenario.

5. Fat-Rich Foods.

These types of foods, specifically fatty foods such as beef, pork, and other processed fatty foods, are strictly prohibited to our dogs because this can cause diseases that can complicate the organs. The effect on humans is the same for dogs.

For the processed foods, one example is salami. It is a favorite among dogs because of its aroma that attracts them to eat it. Unfortunately, feeding your dogs salami is not advisable since it would cause salt poisoning that will trigger kidney issues and pancreatitis. The harmful effects of this processed food will eventually damage your dog’s stomach.

Taking care of a dog involves being learned and sensitive enough to what they eat. As said earlier, the food you feed your dog may be harmful to him, so make sure to exercise caution when feeding him human food.
