Florida’s Unprecedented Population Growth

One of the most pressing migration trends in the United States currently is the large influx of people that are moving to Florida. In the years between 2012-2022, there have been over 3.1 million people that have relocated to the Sunshine State. This is larger than the entire population of states such as Arkansas, Mississippi, and New Mexico, in addition to 14 others. Some of the most rapidly growing cities include Miami, Jacksonville, and Tampa, which have all grown at a 80% rate or higher. Even very small metropolises such as Davenport and Groveland have almost doubled in population size in the past decade, especially after the pandemic.

There are plenty of reasons why Florida is experiencing these trends. The state has recently experienced a lot of changes in its structure that are enticing to many Americans, including higher quality of life, more affordable and accessible housing, and plenty of available work opportunities. One of the most jarring ways that Florida stands out in comparison to other popular states such as New York and California is how low the housing costs are. The average home price in Florida is $392,000, which is half the cost of the two other popular states.
