In the past 5 decades, the United States has seen a host of radical changes across every facet of American society. One major example of this shift is in the perception around marijuana. In 1969, it was estimated that only 12% of people supported marijuana legalization. This number has since risen to 70% in 2023. The legislation has followed the popular consensus, and now there are 25 states with marijuana legalized for recreational usage. Naturally, the number of marijuana users has seen an increase in these states where it is legalized. However, it does not stop just in those states.
As of a 2018 study, there are more applicants failing pre-employment drug tests, even in states where it is illegal. Furthermore, it is estimated that nearly 11% of all employed Americans openly admit to using cannabis. Half of that 11% even admit to using cannabis before work or at the workplace. In certain states, employees with a prescription for medicinal marijuana must get accommodation given to them as well. All these points contribute to the number of marijuana users growing exponentially in recent years. While the future for marijuana is optimistic, one thing is for certain. The sweeping trend of marijuana makes it very likely to make a splash in your industry.
